MUMS everywhere have been captivated by the latest Pampers advert that follows premature babies as they reach their first major milestones - and now the identities of three tiny stars of the ad have been revealed. Within the ad, real families were filmed coping with the premature birth of their babies and their first major landmarks captured; from first smiles to being changed and for some, finally leaving the hospital. The advert opens on the tiny face of Jake Burton, who along with his brother George, is just weeks-old. The twins' parents, Rachel and Allen Burton, from the Isle of Wight, have been living at the hospital for months while their sons are given vital treatment. Speaking to The Mirror , the parents explained that while Jake should be able to leave the hospital in a matter of weeks, George's future isn't as certain. The year-old, who otherwise had a straight-forward pregnancy, went into labour at 25 weeks and the boys were put into an incubator as soon as they were born. The mum, who also has a month-old daughter called Millie, described the situation as the hardest thing she's ever been through. She told the Mirror: "I've been through every different emotion and it's not over yet. The best-case scenario is we have them both home by the time they reach six months. I don't want to think about the worst case. Mum Kayleigh Howell, 23, also shared her story with The Mirror after her son Euan was born at 26 weeks. Kayleigh, who lives in Southampton along with her husband Nathan, 26, explained that after doctors found she was two-centimetres dilated, she spent six days in hospital before giving birth. The mother said: "'They gave me the survival rates and we had to make some quite hard decisions, like whether or not to allow intervention if he was born early, or whether we wanted the doctors to keep him alive. The advert showcases Pamper's new Preemie Protection Size P3 nappy; which is three sizes smaller than the baby brand's current smallest nappy. Mothers everywhere have been expressing their feelings after watching the moving adverts, with several Mumsnet threads being dedicated to their reactions.
Pampers have been forced to change their emotional advert about premature babies due to complaints from viewers. Whilst many people consider the advert a touching and tearjerking watch, some families whose premature babies never made it home find it extremely upsetting. The Advertising Standards Authority ASA received complaints from more than 60 viewers, the majority of whom were bereaved parents of premature babies. But as a result of the complaints, Pampers have had to modify the advert - they've removed the lyrics from the song and highlighted their partnership with Bliss, a charity which provides care and support for premature and sick babies and their families. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, but we do understand that for some families the advert may be difficult to watch. You are always aware of those who do not make it home.
